Koop de BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 (FXFS2)
OBaBylissPROFOILFX02(FXFS2) is a simple electric shaver designed with one purpose in mind: cutting hair.as close to the skin as possible.
For this purpose, it has a pair of very fine metal screens and a powerful motor to drive the blades.
The result should be one of the best shaves you can get with an electric shaver.
In this BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 (FXFS2) review, we'll find out if it actually lives up to its claims (without major compromises).
I will also compare it with other similar razors that are very popular among both hairdressers and professionals.
Without further ado, let's get started.

Features overview
OBaBylissPROFOILFX02(also known asFXFS2zFXFS2Gfor the gold model) is adouble foil shaverPerfect for blending skin tones, but also for shaving facial hair, scalp hair or around the hairline.
OGama PROThe BaByliss brand is officially aimed at professionals, but home users like us can also put the products to good use.
The shaver I bought for testing (FXFS2G) is a partGOLDFX collectionand as the name suggests, it has a beautiful high gloss gold finish.

In addition to the double blade shaver, the collection also includes other tools for cutting and styling hair, such as clippers, clippers and hair dryers, all available in the same gold finish.
Use: it also existsFOLIA BaBylissPRO FOILFX01 simple, wellshaver. However, this review will only focus on the twin blade razorFOLIAX02(FXFS2).
Speaking of which, let's take a quick look at the most important features of this shaver.
1. Double cutting head
As mentioned above, the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 has a cutting system consisting of two standard foil pieces.

It's actually a pair of really thin, perforated metal screens with two blades that swing back behind them and cut off any hair that passes through the holes.

However, unlike regular shavers, the FOILFX02 alternates them, giving you more flexibility and precision depending on the area being shaved.

For example, if you hold the razor at an angle, both blades are in contact with the skin.
This is ideal for shaving large areas such as the cheeks or the back of the head.
Similarly, when you hold the razor perpendicular to your skin, only the top blade will touch it.
This is useful if you are shaving in a tight spot, such as under your nose, or if you need more precision.
You do this, for example, when blending faded skin or shaving close to the beard line.
We have seen this alternating arrangement of cutting elements in other razors favored by barbers, e.g.Andis ProFoil Tytanselected 5-star final.
Finally, I will also compare the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 with Andis ProFoil and Wahl Finale.
2. Metal construction
While not a feature per se, I think it's worth mentioning that the FOILFX02 has a metal body including a protective cover.

This gives it a luxurious look and sets it apart from the other two similar razors mentioned above.
3. Wired and wireless use
The FOILFX02 is equipped with a large NiMh battery that can deliver the maximum3 hourswireless use.
This is really impressive and gives you a competitive advantage in this respect.
Plus, a shaver will work tooconnected by a cable.
The charger has a voltage of 100 to 240 V, so you can use it anywhere in the world (with a simple plug adapter).
4. Powerful rotary motor
The BaBylissPRO is equipped with a powerful 11,000 rpm motor. This should give you enough cutting power, even when shaving a rough beard.
I will cover this in detail in the performance section of the review.
Unfortunately, the BaBylissPRO FXFS2 is not waterproof, which is a pity because it cannot be washed off.
On the other hand, no other professional razor with two blades is waterproof.
Build quality and ergonomics
This BaBylissPRO shaver is built like a tank.
It's big, heavy, sturdy and shiny, especially in this light gold color.

Aluminum is strangely cool and pleasant in the hand.
In comparison, Andis ProFoil feels hollow, light and plastic.
The body of the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 has no plastic or rubber inserts, it is all metal and I personally love it.
The only plastic part is the aluminum frame (even though it looks like metal).
Not sure about the gold color, I think some other finishes would be more to my liking, especially matte white or grey.
However, if you want to stand out, go gold (FXFS2G).

Also, the gilding seems thick and high quality and I hope it stays that way.
I will update the review if my FOILFX02 starts to smudge or flake.
But so far the quality seems good.
Now let's take a closer look at the razor.
I usually don't pay much attention to a protective case, but it's worth mentioning.
It's heavy, made of metal, and fits snugly onto the shaver with one click.

It won't fit on both sides as it has a small notch on one side to release the sheet release button.
On the other side we have the power button which is actually a slider. To turn on the shaver, push it upwards.

When fitted, the protective cover doubles as a travel lock as the powerslider hits it and cannot be accidentally engaged.
The charging port is at the bottom, and right next to it is a small LED that shows the battery status.

Removing the aluminum frame for cleaning is very simple: just press the round button on the side and then gently lift the sheet off the side of the button.

When removed, the two inner blades become visible and do the actual cutting.
The sheets seem to be of good quality, very thin but not brittle.
However, time will tell how reliable they are. For example, Wahl Finale foils tend to break very quickly, so I'm hoping they'll perform better.
Although the cutting head is stationary, the blades move independently of each other.

However, the range of motion is quite limited and you have to push quite hard to move them.
In actual use, you will never exert such pressure.
In terms of ergonomics, for such a large and heavy shaver without rubber panels, the FOILFX02 is quite good.
The metal itself holds up pretty well and I haven't experienced any major problems using it.
The BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 weighs 338 grams with the lid on and 274 grams without the lid, so it's quite sturdy.
By comparison, the Andis ProFoil weighs just 134 grams (4.72 ounces).
You may feel the extra weight of the BaBylissPRO FXFS2G during long sessions, such as duringShave your headespecially in the back, because you have to hold it quite uncomfortable.
Overall, the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 (FXFS2G) scores highly in terms of build quality, especially with its all-metal housing.
On the other hand, it is not the lightest shaver on the market.
Accessories included

Here's what you get with the BaByliss PRO FOILFX02/FXFS2G (GOLDFX Collection):
- Double blade shaver (with metal guard)
- brush
- Charger
- If
- User Manual (English, Spanish, French)
- Stickers
The bundled package is almost decent.
In my opinion, in this price range (the much cheaper one) there should be a charging stand.Andis Profoil Lithium Plus Titaniumcomes with one).
The handle is especially useful for hairdressers as it makes it easy to have the shaver always charged and ready to use.
And speaking of hair salons, if you feel like it, you'll also find BaByliss PRO mirror stickers.
The carrying case is made of fabric and is only used to prevent scratches, smudges and dust from covering the shiny metal shaver.
It does not provide any serious protection against mechanical shocks, so it is needed.third caseThis is why.
My device was purchased in the US, so the charger came with a US plug. If you are buying in Europe, the charger has an EU plug.
Battery life and charging
The BaByliss PRO FOILFX02 is equipped with a robust battery that provides up to 3 hours of cordless use.
While I've never been able to fully discharge the battery as I prefer my razor to always be at least 30% charged, I think the 3 hour claim is quite accurate.
Even if the battery runs out halfway through your session, you can still use the shaver with the cordconnected.
The larger battery also takes longer to charge, so you usually have to wait around 3 hours to charge it from 0 to 100%.
There is only one LED on the bottom of the BaByliss FOILFX02 which flashes blue while the shaver is charging.

The manufacturer also recommends charging the battery for 3 hours before using the shaver for the first time.
After 3 charging cycles, the battery should be fully functional.
All in all, the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 scores very highly in terms of battery life, with a very solid 3-hour battery life and the ability to use the shaver with the cord plugged in.
shaving performance
Now let's see how good the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 is in the real world. Excellent battery life and solid construction really don't matter if you can't get a good shave with it.
Fortunately, the FOILFX02 is impressive for a shaver of this type.
However, not everything about the way she shaves is perfect, so I'll cover the downsides as well.
But let's start with the positives first.
The proximity of shaving
By far the most striking feature of the BaBylissPRO Twin Blade Shaver (and the main reason I bought it) is how close it is to the shaver.
I can say with certainty that this is one of the so-calledbest razorsI've used it before, e.gsmooth dry shave.

The ultra-fine blades combined with a powerful motor and close blade-to-blade tolerance allow you to trim hair very close to the skin.
And that's probably what you're looking for when you buy this type of electric shaver.
Whether you just want to use it on your face/neck or on your head, you won't be disappointed.
Used dry on short facial hair for a close shaveArcoPanasonic 5miArco 6.
I found that using apre-shave balmit will make everything even better and also a little more understanding.
Admittedly, using qualityshaving creamwill give the Panasonic razor blades mentioned above an advantage, but for shavingsekActually, I think BaBylissPRO is at least as good in terms of proximity.
This is true whether you use it to shave your beard, blend your skin, or shave your head.
This is one of the reasons why the FXFS2G is so popular with hairdressers.
For several years I have been cutting my own hair and using different razor blades to achieve the effect of smooth skin.
This BaBylissPRO works well for this, although I would prefer slightly narrower sheets.
You can see that the blades of this razor are quite wide, which makes it not the most agile, especially when blurring the bald line.

But other than that it works great.
When blending the effect, I only use the corner of the top sheet, tapping gently, while the FOILFX02 scrapes everything down to skin level, destroying the fading effect.
Awould be 9z9Prothere's a little more forbearance in that regard, even if you're more of a slob.
In addition, the sheets are much narrower and although the Series 9 trimmer head is larger, only the top sheet can be used for mixing.
While the Series 9 is more comfortable, it doesn't shave as close as the BaByliss PRO FOILFX02.
Because the hair is cut very short, the FOILFX02 will work very well as an overhead razor, but keep the hair short for best results.
Comfort
One of the reasons I shave so closely is because the FOILFX02 does tooquite comfortable.
And I say this because these razors (like Andis ProFoil or Wahl Finale) are usually quite aggressive and rough.
After testing them all, the BaBylissPRO twin blade razor is more comfortable than the others and still shaves hair just as cleanly.
The secret is not to press too hard on the razor or it can cause a nasty burn. This is especially important when shaving the neck or back of the head.
For example, it doesn't forgive as many mistakes as the Braun Series 9 when you apply a lot of pressure.
And you really don't have to, just let the razor do its job.
Another important aspect of a comfortable shave with the FOILFX02 isHair length.
Exactly, the hair should beMap. The manufacturer recommends 1/32 inch, which is too short.
I tried shaving for 3 days and it wasn't very pleasant.
I felt a constant stinging and burning sensation, and since I also had to make multiple strokes to get a close shave, I got razor burns on my neck.
So if you want to use the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 as your main (facial) shaver, only consider it if you usually shave frequently, ideally every day or every other day.
As mentioned earlier, using a good pre-shave balm will make the razor even more comfortable and cut hair more effectively in fewer strokes.
Lubricating the clipper (with clipper oil or grease spray) will help as well as reduce wear and heat build up.
By the way, the sheets do get hot after an extended session, but not to the point of being uncomfortable (this may change as the sheets and blades wear out).
However, using it on short hair with as little pressure as possible will be most important for a reasonably comfortable shave with the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02.
That said, even if it is more comfortable than Andis and Wahl's main competitors, I wouldn't say the FOILFX02 is suitable for users withsensitive skin.
You're better off using a Braun shaver, even if it means giving up a little intimacy.
shave long facial hair
As previously suggested, the BaBylissPRO dual blade shaver only works well for short facial hair.
Attempting to shave a beard that lasts three days or more is likely to end in unpleasant experiences.
Shaving will take a long time because the cutting system of the FOILFX02 is very simple (two micro blades) and picking up longer or straight hairs requires many passes.
It's even worse if the hair grows in different directions.
For example, almost all the hair on my neck is completely flat and has different grains.
As a result, shaving the FOILFX02 after 3 days of regrowth was really bad.
I had to use a different razor and clean the hair left behind. Moreover, I also got pimples from all these extra treatments with BaBylissPRO.
This is not surprising, because this shaver is not designed to trim long facial hair.
I wasn't expecting anything spectacular in that respect, and I can't fault the shaver for that. Just shave more often and you'll be fine.
If that's not an option, definitely consider it.electric razorwhich works best for longer/straighter hair.
Noise
Like any other shaver, the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 is noisy.
In fact, it's one of the loudest I've ever used.
There's also a crisp, clear sound when cutting your hair, especially if you have a thicker beard.
To be honest, the inherent downside to all electric razors is noise.
Exactlyrotary razorsthey are noticeably quieter, but not a viable alternative to the FOILFX02 and its intended use.
The same applies to the rotaryhead shaversHowBalder Profrom dayPitbull skull shaver.
Cleaning and maintenance
Now let's see what it takes to clean and keep your BaBylissPRO twin blade razor clean and in top condition.
I've been reviewing electric razors for 10 years, and whenever I see one that isn't waterproof, I immediately think it's going to be harder and more complicated to clean.
And that's whyrazor cleaningwater (and a bit of liquid soap) is by far the easiest and most effective method.
Unfortunately, the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 is not waterproof, so we will have to adapt our usual cleaning procedure.
As we have seen, this shaver cuts the hair very close to the skin, which in turn generates a lot of fine dust.
Most of it stays in the head of the blade, but a large part goes to the forearm as well as the outside of the razor.
And in this golden finish, it is really noticeable.
When I'm done shaving, I turn the shaver off and remove the aluminum frame.
I tap the frame on the sink to shake out the strands of hair, then blow it a few times.

With a small brush I also remove hair dust from the inside of the leaf head, but I only use it on the inside of the carcass, never directly on the leaves, as they are easily damaged.
The shaving head (detached from the shaver) can also be rinsed under running water - the manufacturer explicitly recommends it.

However, this is the only part that can be cleaned with water.
Then I proceed to clean the rest of the shaver.
The metal plate on the top of the shaver, surrounding the clippers' two power handles, is where a lot of fine hair is caught.

I brush most of it off, but I don't brush the blades for the same reason I don't brush the leaves.
I just don't want to risk damaging them. If you want to clean the blades with a brush, be extra careful and only brush in the direction of the blades, never across (along).
I clean the outside of the shaver with a cloth (microfiber) and with it I also remove stains from the shiny surface.
If you rinse the aluminum frame under running water, shake it off and let it dry outside the shaver.
This is more or less my way of cleaning the BaBylissPRO double shaver.
This takes a little longer and is not as effective as rinsing the entire razor with soap and water.
Since it's not waterproof, it's unfortunately the best compromise I've found.
Lubrication
In addition to regular cleaning of your FOILFX02, you should also ensure that the shaving elements are well lubricated.
This is very important for razors with very fine blades, such as the BaBylissPRO.
I believe that lubricating the blades twice a week should be enough to ensure optimal performance while reducing friction and heat.
I recommend oneclipper oillike Wahla or Ostera, but any light mineral oil will work fine.
Alternatively, spray lubricantin the case of razors or an electric razor, it is equally effective.
Could be even better as some (like the Remington Shaver Saver) also clean parts.
I spray the two inner blades but also the inside of the leaves, then put the blade head back into the shaver and turn it on to distribute the lube evenly.
Then I remove the foil and let everything dry before using the shaver. This is only necessary if you are using a spray lube (if you are using clipper oil, you don't need to let it dry).
Availability of spare parts
BaBylissPRO FXFS2 blade pair and foil head will likely require more frequent replacement compared to the standardcouncils.
That's because the razors rub directly into the blades for a really close shave, and the blades themselves are very thin, so they wear out faster.
The manufacturer does not explicitly specify a replacement period for these parts, but based on my experience with other similar razors from different brands, we assume it will be 6-12 months.
It is recommended to replace the inner cutters and blade head to get the most out of the new parts.
They can only be purchased as a kit, and the price isn't too low considering it's a basic double sheet cutting system.

It's not as complicated as a high-end Braun or Panasonic shaving head.
Sometimes you will find combinations of cutters and heads labeled FXRF2, FXRF2G (gold) or FXRF2RG, depending on the color.
You have the option to buy an aluminum frame in the same color as your shaver (e.g. FXRF2G in yellow gold), but you can also mix and match them.
Apart from the color, the elements themselves are identical.
Replacing them is quite easy, but be careful as the leaves are very sensitive and the blades are quite sharp.
Conclusion - is it worth buying BaBylissPRO FOILFX02?
Overall, the BaBylissPRO FXFS2 twin blade shaver is perfect for its intended purpose.

Shaves hair very close to the skin without being overly aggressive. In fact, it's better than what the competition has to offer in this regard.
As long as you don't press the blades too hard into the skin, most users should be able to get a perfect shave.
That said, if you're going to be using the FXFS2 as a (stubble) shaver, keep in mind that it only works well for short beards.
Therefore, I strongly advise you to look for an alternative if you shave every 3 days, for example, because the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 will have a hard time capturing longer or straighter hairs.
This is a great tool for barbers, men who cut their own hair (to fade the skin) or shave their head.
As mentioned earlier, it shaves quite close and is comfortable enough.
The build quality feels great and solid, and the battery life is excellent.
If you are a hairdresser, I think the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 is one of the best options out there.
The reliability of the tiles also seems to be better compared to the Wahl which is known for its brittle tiles but this will continue to show with continued use.
So the main downsides of the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 are its limited usability (only works well on short hair, be it face, neck or head) and price.
It's not too cheap for a standard twin blade razor, but it has a very powerful motor, solid metal construction and a huge battery.
That said, let's also look at some alternatives.
Alternatives
The obvious first option would beAndis ProFoil lithium titanium shaver(17150 z TS-1).

This is probably the most popular razor of this type (shifted double blades), mainly due to the much lower price.
Andis ProFoil versus BaBylissPRO FOILFX02
The Andis ProFoil comes in a less impressive plastic case and feels almost empty when held in the hand compared to the BaBylissPRO, but can still take a beating.

In my experience, the Andis ProFoil shaves just as accurately as the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02, but not as comfortable.
ProFoil is less forgiving and causes nasty burns and even minor cuts if you press too hard, especially on the neck and back of the head.
I like that it weighs less and is more comfortable when shaving the back of the head.

Battery life isn't as good compared to the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02, but the ProFoil can still give you a decent hour of cordless use.
And just like with the FOILFX02, you can plug in the cable and continue shaving.
Tip: if you are a hairdresser, buyAndis ProFoil Plus Tytan (17200)instead of the usual ProFoil. It has a very grippy rubber cover and a handy charging stand, and it only costs a little more.
For home users, these features are of little importance, but for a professional, it's very nice to have them.
In addition to the shaver itself, the replaceable blades + aluminum head are also cheaper with Andis ProFoil than with BaBylissPRO FOILFX02.
Therefore, ProFoil is a valid and less expensive alternative to the FOILFX02, offering better value for money.
I would still choose the BaBylissPRO for a more comfortable shave and a larger battery, but that's just personal preference.
Another favorite razor is the Wahl 5 Star Finale double foil shaver.
Election Final vs. BaBylissPRO FOILFX02

This Wahl razor is remarkably similar to the Andis razor in terms of performance, build quality, proportion and (lack of) versatility, again only suitable for short hair.
Battery life awaits us, Finale can work wirelessly for over 90 minutes.
It usually costs less than the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02, but the ProFoil is even cheaper.
The Wahl Finale shaver shaves just as closely as the FOILFX02, but again the comfort isn't as good.
In my opinion, the Andis ProFoil is an overall better deal if you're looking for a cheaper alternative to the FOILFX02.
